William Munro attended Saint Andrew’s College before entering UTS. Although he was commissioned a lieutenant in the Forty-Eighth Highlanders and went overseas with the Ninety-Second Battalion in 1916, he served briefly in the Royal Flying Corps, where he was wounded, before returning to join the Fifteenth Battalion in April 1917. He was killed only three weeks later, dying at Vimy Ridge on 1 May 1917. He is buried nearby, at Nine Elms Military Cemetery in Thélus, along with fellow UTS boy Ian Somerville.
